As a partner organization in the Council for Youth Development’s (CYD) Building Assets in Every Youth - Community Certificate Program, your organization shares a common vision of building a community where every young person is healthy, safe, educated, engaged, and supported in Bartholomew County.
Our commitment is to ensure professionals who serve and support Bartholomew County youth and their families receive quality training in essential social-emotional well-being principles and best practices which includes Search Institute’s Developmental Assets and Developmental Relationships frameworks.
To ensure an optimal environment for every youth in your organization to thrive, your organization, in partnership with CYD, trains employees in these essential social-emotional well-being principles and practices.

Listed below is a brief overview of the steps supervisors will need to take to complete the Certificate Program with their employees. For a complete list of steps view the Checklist for Organizations.

Before organizations begin the program with their employees they will:
Review the Toolkit: The toolkit is a collection of resources Foundational Partners and their new employees will use to complete the certificate process. Download the CYD Community Certificate Program Toolkit.
Identify a Liaison: Assign a liaison to work with CYD for quarterly tracking data.
Consultation with CYD: Complete a 60-minute consultation session with CYD.
Add the Asset Builder Badge: Add the Asset Builder Badge to the organization’s website. The badge should link to CYD’s page for Youth Care Workers. Download the CYD Asset Builder Badge Graphic.

Initiate Training Process: Initiate training process with every new employee by reviewing the training options available as outlined in the Toolkit.
Discuss Implementation: Discuss implementation of the DA and DR frameworks with new employees within 30 days of the employee completing the training.
Printable Feedback Form: If recently trained employees are unable to complete the online feedback forms, a printable form is available. Paper forms will need to be delivered to CYD or entered in the online feedback form by a supervisor.

Quarterly Data Tracking: Once a quarter, organizations submits quarterly tracking data as discussed in 60-minute consultation.
Share with CYD: Share success stories and best practices with CYD.
training options
Organizations have four options for how they will provide the training sessions to their employees*. Additionally, employees may have earned Developmental Assets or Developmental Relationships Certificates of Participation prior to joining your organization and will need to complete a few steps to ensure their training is documented.

The Building Assets in Every Youth video session is a pre-recorded training video. The video session is available on the Certificate Program webpage and is easily accessible to all participants inworksheet the program. Participants who wish to complete the video training session should use the Checklist for Employees to guide them through the process. They will also need a copy of the worksheet. Participants will earn a certificate of completion upon completing the training session and feedback form.

The public Developmental Relationships Community Workshop is a two hour, in-person workshop hosted by CYD DR Workshop homepage at the Columbus Learning Center. Participants who wish to complete their training by attending this community workshop can find workshop dates and register online at our DR Workshop homepage. Participants will earn a certificate of complete upon completing the training session and workshop feedback form.

CYD’s Professional Development team is available to deliver in-person sessions to organizations several times throughout the year. The minimum number of attendees for these sessions will be 5 participants. If an organization is interested in setting up an in-person session with CYD, please contact CYD’s Professional Development Specialist, Kate Slabosky at kate@cydbartholomew.org. Participants will earn a certificate of completion upon completing the training session and workshop feedback form.

If an organization prefers to deliver the training themselves, the facilitator delivering the training should first meet with CYD’s Professional Development team for a 1-hour training session. The 1-hour training session is not required for facilitators who have completed official Search Institute courses on DA and DR. If an organization is interested in this option, please contact CYD’s Professional Development Specialist, Kate Slabosky at kate@cydbartholomew.org. Participants who complete their training through this pathway will not earn a certificate.

Employees do not need to complete the training if they have previously earned Developmental Assets and Developmental Relationship Certificates of Participation from CYD, the Search Institute or BCSC prior to joining your organization. They will need to complete a few steps to complete the Certificate Program. For a complete list of steps, view the Checklist for Previously Trained Employees.
*CYD partner organizations participating in the Building Assets in Every Youth - Community Certificate Program may choose to exempt a particular new employee based on their primary professional responsibilities with the organization. Exemptions should be limited as part of this partnership agreement and commitment to advancing the culture of positive youth development throughout all levels of the organization
