Council for Youth Development provides in-person workshops, training, and certifications to youth care workers and community members.

We provide FREE, in-person, community workshops at the Columbus Learning Center throughout the year. To see our current offerings and register for an upcoming workshop, please visit our Events page..

We can also facilitate workshops for your group or organization at your location or at the Columbus Learning Center. To request a workshop or to learn more, please fill out the Professional Development Workshop Request form.

youth mental health first aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a certification course/training designed to teach caring adults how to help a child or adolescent who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Mental Health First Aid for Adults

Adult Mental Health First Aid is a certification course/training designed to teach caring adults how to help another adult who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. The course teaches participants how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in other adults, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care, if necessary.

Developmental Relationships Community Workshop

This workshop is designed to help adults in the community understand and focus on the five elements of Search Institute's Developmental Relationships framework to build strong, meaningful relationships with children and youth in their lives. Attendees will also review local data on the well-being of youth in Bartholomew County and hear from some local teens about what they need from adults.

Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Community Workshop

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are considered one of the most powerful determinants of the public's health due to the breadth of impacts. This workshop is designed to introduce adults in the community to the ACE study findings and implications and supply ideas on how participants can help shift the dynamics that lead to high ACE scores in Bartholomew County.
