accepting artwork through may 14th! ☀️
“Shine On” is our annual postcard campaign, launched in 2017 to celebrate International Youth Day.
In 1999, the United Nations declared August 12th as International Youth Day to celebrate young people and raise awareness of the challenges they face.
In the week leading up to International Youth Day, we distribute 8,000 postcards created by four local student artists. Our goal is that each postcard will end up in the hands of a young person in the community with a meaningful message written on the back. Our postcards are ultimately created for young people, by young people.
Community members can pick up postcards from 12 different distribution sites across the community beginning the week of August 5th, 2024!

Natalie Walker
Natalie is a twelfth grader at Southport High School. She is the multimedia editor for the school newspaper, a member of the speech and debate team, and the is a part of the trivia team. Natalie is also starting a crochet club this year! She wanted to capture the Crump theatre, an important Columbus landmark and a facet of our downtown skyline, in her Shine On design.
Aizah Warsi
Aizah is a fifth grader at CSA Lincoln. She loves reading, writing stories, basketball, swimming and drawing. Aizah was inspired to create her Shine On design after watching the sunrise, and wanted her art to express the joy of being surrounded by nature, fresh air, and colorful flowers. She hopes to inspire gratitude for the magnificent nature that surrounds us all.
Leo Copeland
Leo is a tenth grader at Columbus North High School, and loves listening to music, practicing instruments, studying filmmaking, and sleeping in his spare time. It was the 2017 film “Columbus” by Kogonada that inspired Leo to create his design. Finding every single frame in the movie to be a masterpiece, he decided to recreate one of the shots that truly spoke to him. His design represents how the beauty of Columbus can bring people together.
Chetna raj yadav
Chetna is an eighth grader at Central Middle School. She enjoys reading in her spare time. Chetna believes that everyone is unique and shines in their own way, and chose to represent this with the lightbulbs shown in her design. Looking at a lightbulb in her home sparked her idea, as well as the designs from last year’s Shine On postcards
